Hackers don’t like CDN Today!

In the past year, the CDN Today network of websites has been hacked and destroyed twice! But we are BACK!

Unfortunately, this last time, I was unable to restore a recent backup and consequently, the site appears as it did many months ago. This is a temporary setback. It is my intention to restore the function of the site and make it even better than before.

How CDN Today will be BETTER:

  1. I have moved all the sites to my personal private server. This will enable me to have more control and security on the network than in the past.
  2. I have installed new software with improved function and security. Hopefully, it will eliminate the scourge of vicious, hurtful hackers.
  3. I will be searching for new content providers and offering new sites. I will also be reviewing the existing sub-sites and eliminating those whose owners no longer wish to participate.
  4. I wish to enlist YOUR help with suggestions and comments that will make this network of websites a more pleasant and useful source of help, encouragement, and fun. As always, our first priority is to provide our services in a family-friendly and Christian-friendly atmosphere.

Please bear with us as we progress…

Cars Powered By Sugar?

Could automobiles run on sugar rather than gas?

Sugar in the gas tank

This sounds strange but it could be considered “thinking outside the box.” According to my calculations (see note1), a 120 lb person will only burn about 65 calories while walking a mile. You can get that many calories in about four M&M candy pieces! Or, more in line with my automobile thinking, about four teaspoons of sugar provides  65 calories.

Just consider, at that rate, you could travel almost 30 miles on one pound of sugar. The price of gasoline is now averaging over $3 per gallon. Sugar, on the other hand is about 60 cents per pound. So, for the same $3, you could travel about 30 miles in a car or consume 5 pounds of sugar and walk about 150 miles!

Now, I realize that the auto makers don’t want to hear this, so I don’t expect them to start sending me royalties on the idea of using sugar to power automobiles. And I doubt that a lot of you lazy people are inclined to walk everywhere you go, so I don’t know if this is feasible or not. But if the price of gasoline goes much over $4 a gallon, you may see me walking to town to buy more sugar!

Ok, so I am not REALLY serious about all this. It is a bit humorous (and some people question whether I have any sense of humor). More to the point, it demonstrates how EFFICIENT our bodies are. Ask anyone who has tried to diet and loose weight – when our body is facing a period of fasting, it will become even MORE efficient and utilize even fewer calories for the same amount of work.

I guess that is why the Psalmist said,

Ps 139:14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

I am highly favored and blessed beyond measure,

Note1: Info from http://www.chacha.com/ , There are about 115 teaspoons of sugar to the pound; How many calories does the average person burn while walking 1 mile?  calories = .53 times person’s weight.

Note2: Although it is not recommended to actually add sugar to a gas tank, it probably would not do a lot of harm (contrary to popular belief). Ref: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/fuel-efficiency/fuel-consumption/sugar-in-gas-tank.htm

The Living One

Last night as I was working in my office I was listening to Steve Green on “Spotify”, and the next song that came on was “He Holds the Keys”. This is a powerful song as Steve Green uses his powerful voice to remind us that no matter the prison, Jesus has the keys. There is a scripture in Revelation that speaks of this truth,

“I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades” (Revelation 1:18, NIV).

Jesus was dead, but is now alive! He is able to set us free from the prisons that have hindered us from enjoying freedom. I love the stanza that speaks of “heartache that eats at your soul like a cruel disease.”

Jesus sees your heartache and wants to set you free, will you trust Him for freedom? (I have included the stanza that I mentioned below).

And to all the things that have kept you away

That keep you defeated day after day after day

The heartache that nobody sees

That eats at your soul like a cruel disease

He who set the captives free

It is He, it is He who holds your keys.”  (“He Holds the Keys” by Steve Green)

The Blessing of SMALL Things

Hurricane Isaac

Hurricane IsaacHurricane Isaac hit (such an appropriate word) on Tuesday (28 Aug ’12) when we started getting a lot of tropical storm force winds in our area. It was not too bad but things got worse.

On Wednesday morning, it was clear and windy so I decided to cut a tree near my home since it was hollow at the base. Better to be pro-active and drop the tree in a safe location than to wait and let the storm drop it onto my home! We dropped the tree and had the brush cleared by about 9 AM. Right after that, we started getting some pretty heavy bands of rain coming through.

What is CDN Today all about

What makes CDNToday different from any other site?

Bad ComparisonAt first glance, it may appear that CDN Today is “just another blog” but here are some of the ways that we are different:

  • First, we are family friendly. If you find ANYTHING on any of our websites that is inappropriate for normal family viewing, please report it immediately to our webmaster using the “Contact” tab in the top menu on this page.
  • We are Christian friendly. That should go without saying for any website, but it is not always so. Today, “politically correct” language protects almost every group EXCEPT Christians. On CDN Today, every registered member must certify that they profess to being a Christian, or that they will not abuse those who do. Not all sites on CDN are “religious” (my “Stuff From Ray’s Head” is full of fun stuff that often has no direct link to religious matters) and some sites may offer conflicting political views, but all content sites must respect the generally accepted Christian beliefs.
  • We share much with Facebook(tm). We provide a Facebook-like environment of social interaction (timelines, friends, groups, private messaging, etc). Further, since we are Christian friendly, we serve as a Christian alternative to Facebook. And, if you are not quite ready to leave Facebook, our main website (plus many functions) is available within our Business Fan Page on Facebook! On our Facebook Page (http://facebook.com/cdntoday), just click on the “WebSite” tab (with the large “C”). From there, you can use the website menus and even log in or comment.
  • We have a variety of content provided on our many sites by their respective owners and writers. We provide free web hosting (including the software) to qualified members of CDN Today. Our sites cover a wide array of topics: devotional, leadership, prophecy, gardening, cooking, personal blogs, and simple fun! The site owners choose what they want their site to represent. The only real restrictions are non-commercial, family friendly, and Christian friendly.
  • We are an advertisement free network. The cost of operating the entire network is provided by the founder and webmaster of CDN Today, Ray Waldo. Donations are accepted but are not required.

As you can see, there really is no comparison! CDN Today is unique in design and function. But most of all, CDN is unique in content.

Major Make-Over

CDN Today has undergone a “Major Make-Over”

CDN Under Construction

That make-over includes both visual & functional changes!  During the past few months, several events have occurred that brought this network to a standstill. But we made some very intensive changes.

I believe that you will like what we have accomplished!

  • The visual appearance has been updated
  • The printed content has been updated
  • We added 256-bit Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) security to our login & other pages (use https rather than http) – see the seal at the bottom each page.
  • We are now featuring content from our member sites on the front page of CDN Today
  • We are contacting all of our content providers to update their sites

We are beginning a major advertising campaign using social media (Facebook, Google, & Twitter) to reconnect with all of our existing members… and to meet new friends. Continue reading
